After the Walk
During the Walk to Emmaus experience, the participants are introduced to a concept of the Fourth Day – a term used to describe all of the days that follow the three-day Emmaus experience. The Walk to Emmaus is a unique opportunity to reflect on one’s faith journey and to make a deeper commitment to Christ. In fact, the reason for The Walk to Emmaus is for you to grow as a more faithful disciple and active member in you church. The Fourth Day is central to the Walk to Emmaus experience, as it takes what is learned during the weekend and brings it into the world in which we live.
During Fourth Day, participants are encouraged to continue to grow in relationship with Christ and to live as faithful disciples in all aspects of their lives. The Walk to Emmaus experience, as wonderful as it is, is only a preparation for the Fourth Day. To continue to grow in faith and God’s grace, we need the support of other Christians to keep us accountable. The goal of Emmaus is to give persons the means to persevere in grace for the rest of their lives. Support during the Fourth Day takes place in local church communities, reunion groups, and monthly gatherings of the Emmaus Community.
Group Reunion
The Emmaus reunion group is a small accountability group of 2 – 6 persons, usually people who have participated in the Walk to Emmaus experience, but it is open to anyone who wishes to be held accountable in their Christian walk. The reunion groups meet weekly at a regular time and place for approximately an hour. The purpose of the reunion group is to support and encourage fellow disciples in their life of grace. During the reunion groups people share about their relationship to Jesus Christ and where God is calling them for Christian service. With support of fellow Christians, participants are moved to a closer relationship to Christ. Please see the listing of reunion groups and let us know about your reunion group.
Monthly Gatherings
Monthly gatherings are a gathering of the Emmaus community to celebrate God’s love and grace. It is a way for new fourth day participants to meet others in the community. Community gatherings are monthly. Some regions of the Terraced Hills Community meet at various places for monthly meetings.
Local Church Involvement
The purpose of the Walk to Emmaus is to strengthen Christian disciples and to make Christian leaders within individual congregations. Through the Walk to Emmaus participants are renewed and inspired to serve in their local congregations and in the world. The Walk to Emmaus is not meant to take the place of our local congregation , but to enrich and strengthen them.
