The Walk

The Walk to Emmaus is a 72 hour short course in Christianity, comprised of fifteen talks given by clergy and laity. The themes of the fifteen talks include God’s grace, Christian Discipleship and what is means to be The Church in the world. The Walk to Emmaus experience is wrapped in prayer and filled with special times of worship, singing and the celebration of Holy Communion.

The weekend begins at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and ends in the late afternoon on Sunday. Men and women attend separate weekends. At Emmaus you will spend three busy but enjoyable days. You will have discussions about the fifteen talks and grow together in the grace of Jesus Christ.

Emmaus is a highly structured weekend designed to strengthen and renew your faith in Jesus Christ. The Walk to Emmaus is ecumenical. All denominations who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are welcome to participate. Emmaus seeks to foster Christian unity and to reinforce the whole Christian community by making Christian leaders.

Walk to Emmaus is sponsored by The Upper Room, a division of the General Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church. The Walk to Emmaus is scripturally- based, accentuating those beliefs that Christians have traditionally held in common. Emmaus makes partners of the laity and the clergy in ministry together. Emmaus is only offered with permission of the international organization and according to their guidelines. This is to ensure the quality and content of every Walk to Emmaus weekend.

In order to experience the Walk to Emmaus, one must have a sponsor, someone who has attended a previous Walk to Emmaus and is living in their Fourth Day. The Fourth Day is a term used to describe every day after the Walk to Emmaus experience.
